Did you know Coco Chanel was a Nazi spy?
Oh… Jesus take the wheel.
This episode of the Play Big Queen Podcast is a doozy — and now it’s here in blog form.
On September 10th, 2025, conservative activist Charlie Kirk was killed during his campus tour stop at Utah Valley University. His assassination has ignited a wave of discourse about violence, politics, school shootings, and — most urgently — our collective faith and Christianity’s values.
For too long, Christianity and Jesus have been exploited for political and capitalistic gain. This post is a call to draw the line.
Propaganda Masquerading as Free Speech
Kirk’s organization, Turning Point USA, built an $85M empire by infiltrating college campuses — one of the hardest spaces for any organization to access. Why? Because young adults are impressionable, and capturing them early is movement marketing gold.
But let’s be clear: propaganda is not free speech. Free speech is sharing your lived experience. Propaganda is calculated, emotionally charged, and designed to weaponize fear. Kirk’s rhetoric wasn’t just “personal truth” — it was a political marketing strategy with real-world consequences for marginalized communities.
Christianity vs. Christian Nationalism
People love wearing crosses but forget their meaning.
Jesus was crucified because he was seen as a political and religious threat in first century Judea, which was under Roman occupation. Jesus openly challenged the authority of the religious elite - not the Jewish people themselves - but the Jewish leaders who benefited from hypocrisy, exploitation, and corruption.
Jesus was NOT working with or funding Israel to bomb babies. Jesus was NOT recruited by a president and paid to create an organization with tentacles and 3,500 plus schools infiltrating ideology and burning books.
People who follow this administration in the US right now because they want to “be on the side of God” in politics need to take the crosses off their necks because they are so far from Jesus… may God help them.
Because the real Jesus stood in radical opposition to empire. He stood in love, justice, truth, and resistance.
For decades, Christian nationalism has reduced faith to a political weapon. It has eroded Christianity’s spiritual credibility, indoctrinated youth, and silenced critical thought. The call now is to separate devotion from indoctrination.
Devoted, Not Indoctrinated
This is the distinction I’m naming: devoted, not indoctrinated.
To be devoted is to follow the real Jesus — the one who uplifted the poor, cared for the marginalized, and loved fiercely even unto death. To be indoctrinated is to bow to empire, excuse hate, and ignore harm.
Following Jesus is not for the faint of heart. It means nonviolent resistance, standing in love, and refusing to compromise truth — even when the cost is high.
Navigating Violence and Relief
Violence is never the answer. As someone who’s worked in EMS and witnessed gun violence firsthand, I cannot say this enough: stricter laws save lives. Murder and assassination are wrong.
And yet, when harm-doers lose their power, communities often feel relief. Survivors of abuse, caretakers of the terminally ill — they know this paradox. It is possible to grieve violence and still feel relief when harm ends. Demonizing communities for feeling relief ignores their lived reality.
My Faith Journey
I was raised Catholic, baptized, and confirmed, but I no longer identify as Catholic. My faith is rooted in the intuitive nudge within — God, Goddess, Source, Spirit, whatever you call it.
I take inspiration from the real Jesus, from Mary Magdalene, the Black Madonna, Inanna, Sophia, and countless unnamed women who carried wisdom and devotion. My faith is full and devoted, but never indoctrinated.
A Call for Real Christians
The real Christians — the ones who follow Jesus into love, compassion, justice, truth, and courageous resistance — are the ones playing big.
Jesus, if he lived today, would be a nonviolent anti-fascist. He would not bow to empire. And neither should we.
This is your moment to choose: devotion over indoctrination. Truth over propaganda. Love over fear.
Final Word
Playing big is not about following the loudest voice in the room. It’s about standing in love and truth, even when it’s uncomfortable, even when the crowd zigs and you know the right thing to do is zag.
It's a new era for women Playing Big and reclaiming our faith.
Long may we reign.
